Neue Infos

Aiming

  • Traditional GTA lock-on auto-aim is off by default.
  • Aiming is designed to feel closer to free aim.
  • Some aim stickiness/assistance is still available.
  • Aim assistance can be adjusted in the settings.
  • Rockstar wants aiming to be much more customisable than previous GTA games.
  • TGG does not know whether full traditional lock-on can be re-enabled (or close to it).
Focus

  • Focus can be activated during gunfights.
  • Focus slows down time.
  • It does not automatically shoot enemies like RDR2's Dead Eye.
  • Focus highlights lethal and non-lethal weak points.
  • Red areas indicate lethal targets.
  • Yellow areas indicate non-lethal/incapacitating targets.
  • Focus gives players more choice over whether enemies are killed or incapacitated.
Enemies on the Minimap

  • Enemies do not appear on the minimap in the gameplay shown so far.
  • This appears to apply beyond just police.
  • Players will need to pay more attention to their surroundings during combat.
  • Rockstar appears to be reducing reliance on staring at the minimap.
Criminal Profile and Combat

  • Lethal and non-lethal choices can potentially affect your Criminal Profile.
  • Context matters when determining whether killing someone affects your profile.
  • Killing enemies during situations where lethal force is expected may not necessarily lower it.
  • TGG uses the Mega Mundo shootout as an example where Jason kills enemies without an obvious Criminal Profile penalty.
Hit Markers

  • White hit markers indicate a normal hit.
  • Yellow hit markers indicate an incapacitated enemy.
  • Red hit markers indicate a kill.
  • Incapacitated enemies are no longer a threat.
  • Combat feedback can also affect the screen border (yellow or red).
  • TGG noticed the screen border turn yellow after Lucia incapacitated someone during melee combat.
  • TGG speculates that lethal melee attacks may turn the border red, but he did not confirm this.
Weapon Loadout

  • GTA VI no longer allows you to carry an unlimited arsenal.
  • Two concealed handguns can always be carried.
  • Two long guns can also be carried.
  • Long guns are physically visible on the character.
  • Only one long gun can be stored on your back.
  • If carrying two long guns, the second remains in your hands.
  • You cannot simply hide both long guns away.
NPC Reactions to Weapons

  • NPCs react to how visibly armed you are.
  • A long gun on your back may not cause much concern.
  • Holding a long gun makes NPCs uncomfortable.
  • NPCs may begin moving away from you.
  • Aiming a weapon causes a stronger reaction.
  • Carrying multiple visible weapons changes how people respond.
  • The way you physically carry the weapon matters.
Police Reactions to Weapons

  • Police can react to visibly carried long guns.
  • Police may initially give you a warning.
  • Holding a long gun in a ready-to-fire position can escalate the situation.
  • Simply carrying a weapon and actively threatening people are treated differently.
Weapon Storage

  • Long guns can be stored inside vehicles.
  • Weapons can be placed inside temporary vehicles.
  • Temporary vehicle storage is not persistent.
  • Your personal vehicle stores your full selected loadout.
  • Your personal vehicle therefore acts as your main weapon-storage system.
Weapon Preparation

  • Players may need to think about which weapons to bring before committing a crime.
  • Carrying two long guns makes you much more noticeable.
  • Carrying one long gun may be preferable during normal free roam.
  • Larger loadouts can be saved for situations where you know you will need them.
Weapon Feel

  • Guns have significantly more recoil than GTA V.
  • Weapons have more physical kick.
  • Gunshots feel heavier and more impactful.
  • Automatic weapons are harder to continuously fire accurately.
  • Tap firing can be more effective.
  • TGG specifically noticed this while watching Rob use an assault rifle against police.
Quick Weapon Swapping

  • Quick weapon swapping returns.
  • Players can rapidly switch between equipped firearms.
  • Lucia is shown quickly switching to a pistol after running out of assault-rifle ammunition.
Sharing Weapons

  • Jason and Lucia can physically give weapons to each other.
  • You can walk up to the other character and hand them a gun.
  • Weapons can therefore be transferred between Jason and Lucia during gameplay.
Pistol Fire Rate

  • Pistol fire rates appear to be much less restricted than in GTA V.
  • Semi-automatic pistols can seemingly fire as quickly as you pull the trigger.
  • GTA V artificially limited how quickly many pistols could fire.
Kill Cams

  • Cinematic kill cams return.
  • Kill cams can be disabled in the settings.
Weapon Customisation

  • TGG did not personally see the weapon-customisation system.
  • Other previewers reportedly described it as more advanced than RDR2.
  • TGG could not independently confirm that claim.
  • The Extended Look shows weapon engravings.
  • Different weapon colours/finishes are visible.
  • Gold weapons are visible.
  • Weapon customisation appears to be considerably more extensive than GTA V.
Hand-to-Hand Combat

  • Hand-to-hand combat has been expanded.
  • Blocking is included.
  • Timed parrying is reportedly included.
  • The system appears considerably more advanced than GTA V's melee combat.
Cover

  • The traditional cover system returns.
  • R1 is still used for cover on PlayStation.
Crouching

  • Independent crouching returns.
  • You can crouch without being attached to cover.
  • You can strafe while crouched.
  • Prone movement does not appear to be included based on what TGG saw.
Shoulder Switching

  • Shoulder switching returns.
  • The system is similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Players can change which shoulder the camera sits behind during combat.
Sprinting

  • Sprinting has moved to L3.
  • You no longer need to repeatedly tap X to sprint.
  • Using L3 allows your right thumb to remain on the camera stick.
  • This makes it easier to look and aim while sprinting.
  • TGG credits Mike Shoa for revealing this control change.
  • There may be a way to change this, but it isn't confirmed yet.
Movement Speed

  • Default movement speed can be customised.
  • Players can choose different walking speeds.
  • A faster walk/jog can be selected as the default.
  • Rockstar is giving players more control over how quickly their character moves.
  • This is partly intended to address complaints about forced slow walking.
Diving Into Water (Jason's unusual backflip)

  • Players have more control over water-entry animations.
  • You can apparently control your diving speed.
  • You can choose whether to perform a flip.
  • You can control the direction of the flip.
  • The system is compared to the aerial trick controls in Spider-Man.
  • This explains Jason's unusual backflip shown in the Extended Look.
  • TGG credits El Rubius for revealing this information.
Overall

  • GTA VI gunplay is moving away from GTA V's heavily assisted shooting.
  • Combat requires more awareness because enemies are less dependent on minimap markers.
  • Weapon recoil and handling appear significantly more demanding.
  • The limited weapon inventory makes loadout preparation more important.
  • Visible weapons now affect how NPCs and police react to you.
  • Characters have substantially more movement options.
  • Rockstar appears to be giving players far more control over aiming, movement speed and general gameplay settings
